Behind the walls of Óbidos, Pousada Castelo Óbidos occupies a medieval castle with features dating to the ninth century. Local history says King D. Dinis gave it to Queen Santa Isabel as a wedding present, and the pousada has been housed here since 1951. Guests can stay within the castle or in the neighbouring Casa do Castelo, with a feel closer to life in town. A meeting space accommodates modern events against the castle’s defensive architecture, while a terrace sits beside reception. In the castle restaurant, regional cooking draws on local produce, seasonal vegetables, fish from the coast and traditional meats, with Portuguese wine alongside.
