Pousada Convento Belmonte occupies the restored ruins of the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, built over a chapel dating to the thirteenth century. Set on the slope of Serra da Esperança, it retains the convent’s amphitheatre-like architecture, with views across Cova da Beira and Serra da Estrela. The former chapel and sacristy have been adapted as a lounge and bar. A naturally lit meeting room has air conditioning and audiovisual equipment for presentations and sound. The restaurant, led by Chef Valdir Lubave, draws on the cooking of the Serra da Estrela region, with mountain views from the dining room. An outdoor pool with loungers sits on a broad terrace, and the village of Belmonte is just over a kilometre away.
