About this venue
Set in the countryside outside Sligo Town, Markree Castle lies on the Wild Atlantic Way, with Collooney railway station a ten-minute drive away and Ireland West Airport at Knock forty-five minutes by car. The estate’s gardens, mature trees and the River Unshin give the setting a rural character. Its story reaches back to the Cooper family’s acquisition of a riverside fort in the seventeenth century; architect Francis Johnson extended and remodelled the castle in the early nineteenth century. For meetings and conferences, the property has meeting rooms, a chapel, a private dining room, adjoining dining rooms and an entertainment suite. Meals range from formal dining to afternoon tea and lighter fare, prepared with locally sourced Irish and Sligo produce. Cooper’s Bar and the Long Gallery serve drinks and light meals on selected opening dates.
