Rowers were the first to come here; over time they brought American visitors, architects, consultants and auditors to share the Alentejo setting. Herdade da Cortesia stands beside the Maranhão reservoir, where three arms of water run into the landscape. With little wind and no motorboats, the water is well suited to rowing. A naturally lit meeting room and connected spaces make it easy to step outside for a walk between sessions. The restaurant serves Alentejo and international cooking, with local traditions represented on the menu by dishes such as partridge empada. Cycling and balloon rides are among the other activities on offer.
