Casa do Rio sits in a quiet, secluded stretch of the Douro Superior, between the vineyards and the Douro River. Its main building stands above an orange grove, with rooms looking out towards the water; separate suites are set among the vines, some with a private terrace and pool. The surrounding Quinta do Vallado vineyards are farmed organically, and the landscape retains a distinctly natural, unspoilt character. Guests can arrange meals and wine tastings, as well as activities on land and on the river. The Vineyard Suites are about a kilometre from the main building along an unpaved road, with access by private car or one of the estate’s electric buggies.
