Arrival along the unpaved road sets the pace at Herdade da Matinha: a stay here follows the seasons, the animals and the quieter rhythms of rural life. Independent rooms and suites are spread across four houses in a valley in coastal Alentejo, in the Serra do Cercal and close to the sea. A stream runs shyly between the trees, lavender scents the fields, and a flock grazes nearby. The restaurant draws on Alfredo’s recipes and his experiments with unexpected spice combinations, with dishes made to be shared. For a cultural gathering, Matinha Gallery has a permanent exhibition, Inner Scapes by Alfredo Moreira da Silva, alongside events rooted in art and experiential tourism.
