About this venue
Restored by sculptor José Rodrigues, this former Franciscan convent retains much of its original character and now serves as an art centre and museum. Founded in the late fourteenth century, it took on much of its present form in the seventeenth century before being abandoned after falling into ruin in the mid-nineteenth. The site brings together a church, cloisters, exhibition rooms and a gallery, with gardens and woodland around them. Multipurpose spaces are also part of the complex. Its collection ranges from painting and sculpture to sacred art, including works by Rodrigues. The convent stands east of Vila Nova de Cerveira, near the parishes of Loivo and Candemil.
