Casa Dona Antónia began as a family home, opening its doors to guests in the 1970s when the owner’s grandmother welcomed the first visitors. Inside Monsaraz’s walls, it stands a short walk from the castle and the village’s main sights, with the character of a lived-in home still at its heart. Outdoor spaces and terraces look across the Alentejo landscape, and some make a particularly appealing place to watch the sun go down. Guests can also use the small swimming pool. Each morning brings a continental buffet breakfast made with fresh regional produce, including cakes and preserves prepared by the family, along with salted-butter caramel and chocolate spread. The house is a starting point for exploring the Alentejo, Lake Alqueva, the region’s wines and its food.
