In quiet Boticas, beneath the mountains of Trás-os-Montes, the hotel stands beside Centro de Artes Nadir Afonso, with the region’s distinctive agricultural landscape close at hand. The area’s traditional farming systems have been recognised by the FAO as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System. Designed by Artur Afonso, son of the painter Nadir Afonso, the modern building carries the artist’s geometric abstraction through its rooms, corridors and shared spaces. Meetings can take place in the arts centre auditorium, reached internally from the hotel, or in the flexible Sala Carvalhelhos. At Abstrato, Chef Justa Nobre works with regional ingredients. The spa has a heated indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi and massage treatments; outside, a swimming pool looks out across the landscape.
